In the wild and sheltered rocky ravines of the islet of Vivara, they can nest undisturbed and contribute to the survival of their species, which is still in danger.
Corsican seagulls are a stable presence on the smallest of the Flegrean Islands and participate in the extraordinary biological diversity that characterizes the nature reserve between Ischia and Procida. Inside the “Kingdom of Neptune” Marine Protected Area, which for some time has been monitoring the marine avifauna present especially in winter between the islands and the arm of the sea subjected to its protection. And from ornithological observations, the variety of sea birds, also coming from other areas of the Peninsula, was highlighted and confirmed, according to the data revealed by the identification rings of individuals originating from Sardinia and Puglia.
Precisely thanks to the rings, it was possible to find that the Flegrean Islands are frequented by Corsican gulls ringed both in Sardinia and in Puglia, in addition to those born in Vivara.
Together with the rare Corsican gull and the sedentary black-headed gull, in the Kingdom of Neptune, where they feed off the coast, sea birds from the North Atlantic such as gannets, cormorants, sandwich terns and shearwaters also winter on the coasts of the island of Ischia . A great biological diversity in the sky and along the coasts which goes hand in hand with the already extraordinary diversity of the sea in the Marine Protected Area.
