There are fortresses on the sea, to defend the coastal villages exposed to attacks and invasions, and majestic castles on the heights of the interior, in a strategic position on the borders or to guard important routes. Synthesizing with a few adjectives the quantity and variety of the Cilento villages is an impossible undertaking. CHARTERHOUSE OF PADULA

In Vallo di Diano dominates an architectural and artistic, historical and religious, even economic giant for many centuries. It is the famous Certosa di Padula, dedicated to San Lorenzo, the largest Benedictine convent in Europe fully restored to its former glory, which has crowned it a World Heritage Site.

Itinerary guide

With the toponym Cilento we have identified by extension a large part of the province of Salerno, established in 1861, the southernmost of Campania, the largest with its 4,954 square kilometers and also the one with the largest number of Municipalities, 158, as well as the second in number of inhabitants. It borders with Basilicata, the Metropolitan City of Naples and the Province of Avellino. To reach it, you can use various railway lines. By car, via the Autostrada A2 Mediterranean, the Autostrada Italia A3 and the Autostrada Caserta-Salerno A30. There are hundreds of internal, regional and municipal communication roads. It has a large port in Salerno, the second in the Region, and various marinas along the coast. The airport is Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi.
