It was on the shore of the Titerno stream that argil used by the ceramics masters of Cerreto.

 

Cerreto Sannita arredo urbano illuminazione 02Most of them were coming from Naples, for the reconstruction of the town after the seism in 1688, and in the following decades they created a ceramic neighborhood close to the Cathedral of Santissima Trinità, with the two campaniles covered with green and yellow majolica tiles. Fine ceramic tiles floors that we could find in some of many other churches of Cerreto, which was also including San Lorenzello in its “contrada” (city quarter). It was another ceramic production center which then became an autonomous city. Apart from the other polychromatic tiles, plates and vases (especially pharmacy ones) were characteristic of the more and more appreciated ceramic of Cerreto, jars and holy water fonts with baroc naturalistic and religious decorations: yellow, green, orange and Cerreto blue. It was still in the XVIII Century that the peculiarities of the ceramics of Cerreto were confirmed and defined, until today. Protected by an artistic and traditional ceramic brand since 1997 and by a procedural guideline of 2001 which sets all the production methods. In Sant’Antonio palace which was an ancient Franciscan convent, the “Civic Museum of Ceramic in Cerreto” offers a rich exposition of ancient pieces of Cerreto and of San Lorenzello together with contemporary artists works.Cerreto Sannita arredo urbano illuminazione 02
