Once close to the sea, a commercial port for the fertile plain cultivated by the Greeks, Etruscans and Samnites, Pompeii became a large city in Roman times, with imposing buildings, temples and comfortable villas for the otium of wealthy patricians. A world heritage marvel that still defies time.

A small canvas depicting the Madonna of the Rosary brought from Naples to the place, near Vesuvius, where a group of faithful gathered to pray. There Bartolo Longo built the first basilica which was then considerably enlarged as more and more devotees flocked there.

In eleven bright rooms, the recently renovated layout traces all the phases of the long history of Pompeii, from the beginning between the 7th and 6th centuries BC up to the tragic day of the eruption which condemned it to oblivion for seventeen centuries.
