The names of the ancient settlements buried by the most famous eruption in history today identify other populous centers that grew up from the Middle Ages on the thick layers of ash and lapilli. Another story, also rich in remarkable architectural, artistic and anthropological testimonies.

There are eleven trails in the Vesuvius National Park that enter the natural wonders of the Gran Cono and the oldest crater of Monte Somma. And there are the itineraries that wind through the vast plain of the Sarno valley, enhancing sites of unspoiled nature.

CASTLES

Among such wealth of archaeological evidence, there is no shortage of other important historical-architectural evidence in the area such as castles and noble palaces from different eras. After careful restorations, they now house museums, exhibition spaces and cultural activities.

GOLDEN MILE

A mile of driveway, between Herculaneum and Torre del Greco where, hand in hand with the progress of the archaeological rediscovery of the Vesuvian sites, magnificent holiday residences for nobles and courtiers arose from the eighteenth century, signed by the major architects of the new Bourbon kingdom.

Itinerary guide

At an administrative level, the Vesuvian area falls within the Metropolitan Area of Naples. The excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum, the various coastal towns and the slopes of Vesuvius can be reached with the Circumvesuviana railway between Naples and Sorrento. By car on the Autostrada A3. To reach Vesuvius, from Pompeii station of the Circumvesuviana with the Eav bus or from Herculaneum with the Vesuvio Express shuttle. And by car with the provincial road up to the parking lot.
