In the most extreme and advanced part of the Phlegraean Peninsula, just in front of Procida, separated by the shortest stretch of sea, a bay opens with a beach of fine sand, where there is a small tourist port too.

Thanks to its particular conformation, at the base of the rocky promontory that shields from every wind, in the bay it is always flat calm. Characteristic from which the name of Acquamorta would have derived.

The legend tells that in that bay a beautiful girl named Acqua, entering the water, one day went too far out, until she was submerged by the waves. To save her life was a young man from Procida, Giosuè, who was fishing and brought her back safely to shore. Since then, Acqua went to the bay every day to greet Giosuè. But one day the boat did not show and Acqua learned of a storm in which the fishermen of Procida had lost their lives. So much was her pain that a short time later the girl surrendered herself to the sea, disappearing to reach her love. So that place took the name of Acquamorta.
