They are already on sale in September, the first sign of autumn when summer has yet to say goodbye.
They come from the chestnut groves that surround the mountains of the extinct volcano of Roccamonfina and are very valuable chestnuts. In particular, the “Tempestiva”, which already in the name reveals itself as firstfruits, is the most widespread species and if they even obtain roasted chestnuts in syrup. From the northwestern side of the volcano also comes the “Paccuta”, so called because it is round. The “Ufarella-Vofarella” varieties, characteristic instead of the Trebulani mountains, are also mentioned by Pliny.
