A landscape that leaves you breathless. The view of the entire valley of Vitulano from above, with the mountains of white karst rock crowning it, is the conquest of the paths winding along the wooded sides of Camposauro and the nearby mountains.

For a thousand years, every path would lead to ancient abbey of Santa Maria in Gruptis, which at six hundred meters of height, overlooks that magnificent natural setting that changes colors and appearance at different times of the year.

That position, beautiful and strategic, was exploited for a long time by the brigands during the 19th century, finding refuge among the ruins of the ancient Benedictine complex. Sure to be able to control from above all the accesses and movements of extraneous and hostile presences approaching on foot or on the back of a mule. Because on the ruins of the medieval church, of which only the apse, the entrance portal and a short, picturesque stretch of the original boundary wall remain, all the mule tracks connecting the Valley and the Telesina converged.

Those paths in the green, to be enjoyed step by step for the variety and prosperity of the vegetation, among the sounds and colors of nature, are today ideal for trekking enthusiasts, guided by local experts, able to tell their tales and legends.

And the paths made for mules are suitable for excursions on horseback, with qualified instructors. There are twenty boxes equipped to shelter your own horses or to mount local horses.

Uncontaminated landscapes to be experienced freely in spring and summer, among the infinite shades of green and the lively blooms appreciated by grazing sheep, cows and horses. Or the experience of autumn foliage, which gives way, after the first snowfalls, to the magic of walks with snowshoes in the enveloping silence of the whitewashed landscape.
