At 420 meters of heights, on the slopes of Mount Pentime, third peak of the Taburno massif, the castle of Torrecuso rises superbly, towering over the town that bears reference to its elevated position even in its name.
Built by Longobards to guard and defend Benevento, capital of their southern duchy at the time. A triangular structure with three mighty towers, around which the ancient town that still preserving its characteristic medieval layout developed.
It was in the 18th century, when it was owned by the Marquises Cito, that the castle underwent a decisive mutation: no longer a fortress, but a modern residence designed by Barba, architect of the Vanvitellian school.
The beautiful Caracciolo-Citto Palace, from whose terraces the view over enchanting panoramas can be enjoyed, is now partly the headquarters of the Municipality of Torrecuso, while the remaining spaces house the Sannio Food and Wine Supply Chain and the School of Taste of typical local products.
