A trip to Naples is not complete if you don't walk through San Gregorio Armeno to choose the shepherds, regardless (mentioning Totò, the famous Neapolitan actor) of the Christmas period, in a dimension – the Decumans one – which is like «a nativity scene within the nativity scene» in a reflection multiplied by the mirrors.
Nativity Scenes and shepherds which continue to be imaginative representations of the birth of Jesus, documents and insights on life of two thousand years ago, but also a large theatre updated with contemporary colours and humors, with the continuous insertion of new terracotta figures, of new idols made so by the history, the show and the theatricality of the media reality. The Neapolitan nativity scene is all of this and more, and this justifies its place on the podium of the symbols to grab as a memory of a stay in the heart of Naples.
Its success goes with the one of Capodimonte porcelain, thanks to the skilled artisans who have made the produced pieces unique, with the quality of the mixture, the refined handmade decorations and the compact surface coating, which makes the colours shiny. The porcelain production is artistic, and has been preserved: it has abandoned the original forms and typologies (plates and small statuettes) in order to focus on more commercial choices, such as gift items, party favours, flower baskets, pieces of furniture and ornaments, which keep their charm and are in the specialised shops.
