The underground floor of the cathedral, a mine of archeological informations about the life of the population of Benevento following one another from Prehistory to Middle Age.
After the excavation that bought back to light traces of the inhabitants of the Bronze Age, samnite, Roman, paleochristian and Longobard, a hypogeal visit route was set up and has as reference the pseudocrypt of the cathedral and other connected spaces, purposely recovered. Thus, the Diocesan Museum was born, restored and enlarged in 2012, combines the exploration of the stratification of ancient sites, with their architectural and artistic evidence, the exhibition of the local findings, accompanied by explanatory panels, photographs and virtual reproductions. A walk through time and history in constant evolution, aiming to make the most of the cathedral's dowry of ancient documents, saved from the destruction of the Second World War. Including precious medieval codes written in the characteristic "Beneventan writing".
