On the southern slope of the Matese, Cusano Mutri is a magnificent Middle Ages hamlet which remained unchanged over the years, except for the Castle of the XIII century from which there is only picturesque ruins remaining.
The paths to join the treasures which Mother Nature has given to this area start from the old town. A street marked by signs of majolica, corresponding to the Stations of the Cross, lead to the Mount Calvary, which is a 560 meters high hill from which on the top, all around the cross called “Santa Croce” (Holly Cross), you can admire breath-taking view on the Monte Mutria, on the Titerno valley and the surroundings of Pietraroja. The Conca Torta Gorges, along the course of the Reviola, a stream which merges into the Titerno. A few kilometers from the hamlet, between Cusano and Pietraroja, we can find the Cacciaviola Gorges, which can be visited with experienced guides. As you walk up the path, which from the village leads to the Lavello Gorges, you can meet the Grotta dei Briganti, Grotta delle Fate, Grotta delle Streghe (grottos), the Belvedere, the Ponte del Mulino and Mulino di Zi’ Fiore. The ski resort of Bocca della Selva is part of the Cusano Mutri area.
