ACCIAROLI - the fishing village around the Norman tower
Among the most well-known and appreciated hamlets of Cilento, Acciaroli is also fraction of Pollica, with a port, today mainly tourist, while in the past it was a safe harbor for fishing boats, the main activity of its inhabitants.
Attracting the attention of science for a percentage of Guinness centenarians. Although its splendid and award-winning sea is its greatest attraction, Acciaroli welcomes visitors with a respectable historical heritage. Starting with the church of the Santissima Annunziata of 1187, later modified, continuing with the Franciscan convent of 1565 and the characteristic Norman tower. Destroyed during the Vespers War, it was then rebuilt in its current location.
On the northern side of Serra di Molino a Vento stands Celso, whose existence is testified on a document from 1050. Must see is the parish church of the Assunta, connected to the baronial palace Mazziotti, the beautiful church of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli of Lombard origin with baroque interior, and the convent of the Augustinians, now in ruins. Characteristic are the alleys of Cannicchio, the X century hamlet, where the 16th century church of San Martino stands out. It was 1092 when Galdo Cilento was mentioned for the first time, where Wald stands for wood in the language of the invaders. There are the Palazzo di Rizzo with a cylindrical defense tower, and the palace of the Galdi barons on a previous medieval building, rearranged at the beginning of the seventeenth century with a noble chapel.
