Even around Avellino, hazelnut groves are the masters, as in many other parts of Irpinia, which is a large producer of hazelnuts.
Much sought after for their peculiarities by the national industry of creams, chocolates and snacks. Merit of the queen cultivars of Irpinia hazelnut growing, which dates back to Roman times: the "Mortarella", medium-small and light brown; the "Camponica", typical of Avellino, and the "SanGiovanni", crumbly and aromatic.
