Departure from the beautiful square of Serrara bordered by the eighteenth-century Palazzo Iacono made with the typical local rock: the green tuff.
The “belvedere” (viewpoint) of Serrara is certainly one of the most panoramic on the island, offering on clear days a wonderful view of the peninsula of Sorreto, Lattari Mountains and the island of Capri. But above all it allows to see below the hamlet of S. Angelo and the volcanic cathedral of the same name and the plain of Succhivo, a geological structure bordered by fault lines and rich in thermal waters. The route winds through a small road that passes through the town, and then, after a while opens up offering a wonderful view. At this point the descent begins on a comfortable staircase, which is immersed in the vegetation (Mediterranean maquis) of the area and literally cuts the rock. The route continues for a section on Maronti beach, the largest on the island. This area is home to an intense hydrothermal circulation and that leads to Cava Scura, which is one of the most exploited thermal springs in Roman times, whose waters reach a temperature of about 100 ° C. Finally we arrive at S.Angelo, which was a small fishing and sailor village and whose architectural structure is still visible despite the tourist development.
