The Caudine Valley, between the province of Avellino and Benevento, falls for the most part in the area of the latter.
Delimitated in the north by the Tabuno and in the south by the Partenio, it enters in the east by the Strait of Arpaia, identified with the famous Caudine Forks, and in the west by the Sferravallo pass. Anciently occupied by a lake, it has a flat area which reaches the maximum height of 310 meters. It is crossed by Isclero river, and the Appian way runs there.
