On the southern slope of the Matese, Cusano Mutri is a magnificent medieval village that has remained almost unchanged over time, with the exception of the 13th century castle of which picturesque ruins remain.
From its historical centre the paths lead to the jewels that Mother Nature has given to this territory. A small road marked by majolica panels, corresponding to the stations of the cross, leads to Mount Calvario, in reality only a hill 560 meters high from whose summit, all around a church dedicated to the Holy Cross, you can enjoy a breathtaking view on Mount Mutria, on the Titerno valley and on the surroundings of Pietraroja.
Still from the center of the town, one enters the Gole di Conca Torta (gorges), along the course of the Reviola, a stream that flows into the Titerno. A few kilometers from the village, between Cusano and Pietraroja, there are also the Gole di Caccaviola (gorges), which can be visited with expert guides. Then climbing up the path that leads from the village to the Forre di Lavelle, you come across the Grotta deiBriganti, the Grotta delle Fate, the Grotta delle Streghe (caves), the Belvedere, the Ponte del Mulino and the Zì Fiore mill. The ski resort of Bocca della Selva also partly falls within the territory of Cusano Mutri.
