Despite the passage of time, the stretch of "Costa del Mito", in the north of the Gulf of Pozzuoli, the places preserve in their name the memory of the presence of the Classis Miserenensis, the most important fleet of the empire, established by Augustus a few decades before the first century BC expired.
One of these places is Capo Miseno, the sinus militum because of its natural harbor seat of the fleet, although the myth has wanted to bring the toponym back to the trumpeter of Aeneas who was buried there after the dramatic dispute with Triton. The same is for Miliscola, the militum schola due to the presence of the military school also linked to the fleet, the golden sand of the beach that welcomed the lifeless body of Misenus returned from the sea.
Almost two kilometers long, from Capo Miseno, in the area of Bacoli, to Monte di Procida, the sandy strip protected by breakwater cliffs offers a shallow seabed that is suitable for children. The sections with free access are accompanied by those supplied to the bathing establishments, which offer various services.
Facing south-west, the beach is right in front of the islands. Therefore, in ancient times, especially at the time of the Grand Tour, it was from Miliscola that the boats set sail to take the tourists to Procida, from which they then reached Ischia.
