Part of mount Paflagone, spur of Mount Cervialto, in Irpinia, the Sele with its 64 kilometres continues its way southwards, receiving in the territory of Contursi Terme its main tributary: the Tanagro.

It crosses the oasis of Persano, where an artificial lake was formed after the construction of a dam in 1932, and it reaches Eboli. From there, it runs into the valley to which it gives the name and where waters of different tributaries flow down. Close to Paestum, once the water of Calore Lucano received, it crosses the archaeological area with the remains of Heraion, the ancient sanctuary dedicated to Era and then with an estuary, it meets the sea.
