Apart from its Lucanian origin, Tanagro is the river of Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, because it flows into it for most of its 92 meters course.

Nothing more than a torrent originally, in the municipality of Moliterno, in the province of Potenza. The springs of the Calore and several other waterways feed it and increase its flow. From Padula it crosses Vallo di Diano and the residential area of Polla, then it continues its way towards Auletta, Caggiano and Pertosa, where the waters from the caves flow down to, in order to continue to the Alburni, where it receives other tributaries, and flow into the Selle close to Contursi Terme.
