It rises from mont Gelbison and flows through the territory of Cilento for 22 kilometres until flowing into the sea close to Capo Palinuro.

One kilometre from the mount of the Mingardo, with which the Lambro or Lete have in common Virgil’s quote: the “River of Blood” in the Aeneid. Between the mounts of the two rivers, a plain extends where the hill of the Molpa rises, on which stood the homonym Greek city founded by the Phocis, while nowadays there are the remains of a 9th century Norman fortress. In front of the hill, the bay of the Molpa opens.
