It rises from Lake Matese and in the first part of its way, it is characterised by cascades and differences in heights.
Therefore, the Torano reaches and feeds its “official” source in the centre of Piedimonte Matese. Its way starts from there, for eleven kilometres, touches the Sannio Alifano in the upper Caserta area, and continues with two different branches up to the confluence in the Volturno. The doubling of the river, manmade, already happens close to Piedimonte, where we can see the difference between the old and the new branch, or in other words, between the branch on the left and the branch on the right, as they are correctly called nowadays. Both join the Volturno, but in different places, at a distance of 5 kilometres.
