For the ancients, it was the river of the myth, which gave forgetfulness to whoever drunk its water.
The river mentioned and sung by scholars of all ages. First by Virgil, who in the Aeneid wrote that the souls of the Elysium would have been reincarnated only once their memories erased. In the Divine Comedy, it is one of the two rivers of the Earthly Paradise. Actually, the river Lete is born in the Matese mountains, at Campo delle Secine in the municipality of Letino, over a thousand meters high. A stream of twenty kilometres, which is stopped in Letino by a dam and formed Lake Letino, before the subterranean part which has created Grotte del Cauto. Once the territories of Prata Sannita, Pratella and Ailano accrossed, it meets the Volturno.
