In the north-east of Campania Felix, separated from the Campania Apennines by the valley of the Medio Volturno, the massif of the Trebulani Mountains rises, also known as the Colli Caprensi.
From north to south it extends for 21 kilometers from Pietravairano to the stretta di Triflisco in Bellona and for 14 kilometers between west and east, from Pignataro Maggiore to Alvignano. To the west they overlook the Campania plain, while to the east they slope down towards Medio Volturno.
The highest point is Pizzo San Salvatore of Monte Maggiore (1037 meters), other peaks are Mount Caprario, which the name of Caprensi derives from, Mount Melito, Mount Friento, Mount Sant'Erasmo, Mount Scopella, Mount Cardillo, Mount Santa Croce, mountains of the Coast.
From the naturalistic point of view, in the lower part there are hardwood forests, the mixed ones and also the Mediterranean scrub, above 900 meters birch, chestnut and beech trees are widespread. And if Mount Scopella is covered by pine trees, Mount Santa Croce and the nearby hills don’t have trees. The fauna is also very rich, with foxes and wild boars, numerous species of birds, including many nocturnal and diurnal raptors, amphibians and reptiles.
